| WEST VIRGINIA CANCER CLINICAL TRIALS NETWORK |
WVOS continues to support the development of a WV Cancer Clinical Trials Network.
Developing and successfully accruing patients to cancer clinical trials in West Virginia is vital to
improving the quality of cancer care for all West Virginians as well as reducing the overall
burden of cancer-related mortality in our state. WVOS hosted a dinner and planning session
on the evening of April 22 for WVOS members and others interested in this effort.
The group was updated on the status of the network and provided with a summary of three
state models – Kentucky, Florida, and New Mexico. We are using aspects from the three
models to develop a unique WV network model. WVOS members expressed a great deal of
interest and support for establishing the network and voted to move forward on the
development of an infrastructure.
Members volunteered to work on two committees focused on financing the network and the
development of an overall plan and infrastructure. Next steps include the procurement of a
consulting group, identifying a part time director, and seeking a not for profit incorporation for
the network.
